2021 Spring Marathon W11D01: 7 easy miles w/ 6 x (100 m strides + 100 m recovery).

Ate well and slept mostly well last night. Waking up early and refreshed had its advantages - I started the work that much sooner and got out to experience fresh air before sunset.

February 15th was the last day to virtually complete this lovely little event held annually in Minocqua, WI (http://www.minocquawinterpark.org/wolftracks/). While starting at 2 F and ending at -2 F sounds chilly, it felt like a heatwave given the recent streak of subzero temperatures. Kept it as an easy aouting. As tempting as it was on occasion to skate ski, I stuck with classic motion - to earn more karmic credits towards my next potential jury duty in a ski race.

Stopped a few times to enjoy the blue skies, sunshine, snow-clad trees, fresh corduroy and tracks, and orange skies. Also chatted with Lenny, Betty, Carrie and Sue along the way.  Moisture wicking buff was ok until it was wet with snot and such. Once the temperature dropped, the buff turned into a sheet of ice. Observed that the grip zone was dragging on random occasions. Initially, thought there might be debris or worse, skins were peeling off again. Only after completing the outing did I see the icing on the skins. Need to figure out a better way to prep them for colder conditions. Good outing.

As with most entities impacted by COVID-19, I missed traveling to the event with friends, racing hard and enjoying the yummy post-race nutrition with fellow participants. The group photo and food in a paper bowl are from the 2020 edition.

Toko Base Performance Liquid Paraffin Blue applied on 2021-02-12, and polished with a dedicated brush on 2021-02-14; Structure: None; Grip wax: Toko Skin Cleaner and Toko Eco Ski Grip applied on 2021-02-12. Prolink binding set to -2.
