Thankful to be back at the curious Yakima Canyon with its basalt cliffs & sparking waters, and the farmlands and extensive irrigation canals of Ellensburg + Yakima 🙏. A nice, mellow, mixed-surface route. Some character building via gravel climbs with strong winds towards the latter part. 

Skipped the gravel Hessler Not Flat Rd gravel segment and took the road instead, because it was gated (on both sides) with fence, and I was concerned about running out of sunlight. Was hoping to do 280W on the final climb but legs decided not to respond (and there was a discouraging headwind!)

The views for this ride were very nice; nothing spectacular, but each segment having its own charm. The compact Yakima Canyon was nice and felt quite cozy, with a few small houses and outcrops, farms, a parallel train track on the other bank of the river, nice basalt columns, and recreation parks and fishermen. Nearer Yakima were the farms and irrigation canals and nice country houses. My favorite was probably the Wenas highland plateau, especially just before descending down the gully back to Ellensburg. It had a high-up remote feel, but not too remote; like I was riding on a high up flat cloud.

Fuel: No coffee 😢 and one Chocolate Banana Clif Bar for breakfast. Then one more Clif bar and two Lemon Luna Bars during the ride. One extra ice-cream and a Lime Cucumber Gatorade during a stop at Naches, in addition to 2/3 can of mountain dew to avoid credit card fee, and two bottles of Favoritos flavored sugar water.
