Afternoon Run

(Full run down on IG) Woo wee that was fun but also hard. Started early knowing it was supposed to hit close to 100 in the canyon today. Turns out running the whole first descent plus a lot is tough in pitch black. I don’t see well at night and not a great downhill runner so it was tough. Other than that, felt absolutely amazing until literally the climb out and then that entire segment was a low for me. We hit halfway in 3:50 and then hit the bridge to start heading up right around 6 hours. It was very very hot and it really got to me. Started having muscle spasms, seeing spots, etc. but toughed it out. We for sure would have been under 8 hours but we spent about 8-9 min behind a mule train that said we couldn’t pass. So many water stops which is a time suck. We refilled at Cottonwood on the way out, the North Rim, Cottonwood again, and then Phantom Ranch. Each stop easily added 2 min or more. SO impressed with Corey. Hers was absolutely the performance of the day. That last 7 miles is just soul sucking hard. Really takes a lot to keep pushing. So stoked with how I felt and how my body held up overall. Feeling in a very good spot going into Western States next month.
