1. The winds on this island defy expectations. 
2. The Mauna Loa access road is one of the coolest things I have ever ridden. I wish I could have taken more of it in but I was deep in the 📦 by then. 
3. Top 3 coldest moments ever on a bike was descending the first 2-3 miles in rain and sleet with just a rain jacket. Fortunately it was over quickly
4. I saw wild boars! As road kill...but still
5. This was fully self-supported, I was able to to do the summit and back to the rest area in 5.5 hrs on 2.5 liters of water. Not sure I recommend. 

*Highway 190 from mile marker 28 north is just really NOT great on a bicycle. Do not recommend.
