Happy Thanksgiving

That's a wrap. I scooped up my K's and made out like a bandit. If I can hold onto my pants this coming weekend and properly absorb the fatigue, then that's an unblemished victory for my 2021 goals. This whole operation was risky and dubious. It relied on things going according to plan, and they didn't. But even though I tripped while carrying a full tray of food, I was miraculously able to keep any of it from hitting the ground. I've posted enough to give people the general idea, but once I post the rest of the Waterfalls 1200 that'll provide even greater context.

Today wrapped up the Colorado High Country 1200k. A mellow mostly-downhill 150 miles from Walden back to Louisville, with the fine company of Russ and Ian.

Our first cue leaving Walden was a right-turn in 88 miles. Ian couldn't fathom a 1200k without a proper sit-down meal, and for no other reason than we liked the name, the 3 of us had a relaxing riverside lunch at the Mishakawa on the lower half of the Cameron Pass descent. A group at a nearby table told us they had just witnessed a fatal head-on collision that occurred just behind us. Yikes! I counted 6 emergency vehicles headed up on our way off the pass.

We took a breather at a gas station. Ian informed me it was my turn to use the bathroom, but when I approached it the shopkeeper remarked "You might want to wait a second." This resulted in a group laughing fit and I skipped the bathroom.

We had reached the point in the ride when stops become more frequent, and 20 miles from the finish Ian got antsy about another approaching storm (I'm seeing a pattern!) and wanted to roll out again soon. We got caught in some light showers, but if anything it helped with the 90+°F heat we had been riding in.

Several volunteers greeted us with cheers and cowbells at the finish, and Kerin awarded us with High Country medals. Completion time: 83:46.

I suppose I'm ready to be off my bike for a bit. I could use a nap.
