Originally planned to descend the S Face, climb East Vidette, and head back on the JMT over Kearsarge Pass, but the N Face of University Peak proved to be a full value adventure in and of itself. We climbed up the wrong way from Bench Lake on some terribly loose rock (avoid the gullies!) before gaining the rib where the climbing improved dramatically. I don't remember that from the climb in May. Fun traverse to the summit that was much easier without the snow. Register destroyed by water. Smoke from the Dixie Fire blew south into the Owens Valley yesterday and crept up into the mountains when the day started to warm up, obscuring the view north and south, but the Great Western Divide was smoke free and beautiful! Smoke mostly wasn't too bad up high though. Terrible down in Bishop. Ran into a nice couple (Greg & someone) on the summit. Down the East Ridge which was easy enough. Another great day in the High Sierra! 30th (28th new) SPS peak of the year and 97 miles / 33.4k in 8 days!
