Saints and Smugglers 100 miler Challenge 2021

Stage 4 of 4 The Saints Way Challenge 28.5 miles 05SEP21

At 6.30am the first wave of challengers set off through the streets of Padstow, hot on the heels of the Ricochet front runners, brandishing swords & yelling 'There can be only one' as they went.
Wave 2, who had been secretly waiting quietly on the side lines for the rabble to depart, set off at 7.45am in what I must say was a very dignified manner, not a dirk to be seen.

We inserted trackers into all the runners, both Ricochet & Challengers, partly for safety, but in all seriousness mainly for fun...
Watching one of them on the live feed break away from the herd and try to escape is always entertaining for the guards. Snatch squads in unmarked cars with tinted windows were dispatched on more than one occasion. I do have a verified report of one runner being found stood in the middle of a roundabout in between Bodmin & Lostwithiel shouting at a passing motorbike for directions. (You know who you are, you're secret is safe)......

Stage 1 – 22nd May 2021, Looe to Polruan – 12.1 miles of scenic coastal path along the south coast of Cornwall, 1 checkpoint part way, no cut off time.

Stage 2 – 12th June 2021, Rock to Boscastle – 25.5 miles of rugged North Cornwall coast path, 2 checkpoints along the way, 9 hour cut off.

Stage 3 – 24th April 2021, Boscastle to Looe,The Smugglers Way – 36.6 miles straight across the Cornwall via Bodmin Moor, 3 checkpoints along the way, compass and map reading skills required for this one, 14.5 hour cut off.

Stage 4 – 5th September 2021, The Saints Way Challenge, 28.5 miles, Padstow to Fowey, straight across the County following the ancient Saints Way Trail. 10.5 hour cut off.
