This was a smokey start (AQI about 150) because there's no way to modify wilderness permit start dates or entry trailheads in Yosmite, so it was start this day or don't go at all. Because it's the standard approach to Cathedral Peak, Budd Creek has a good trail most of the way up to the pass, except the last hundred feet or so.  The shorter west side is a bit more adventurous but still easy class 1. The creek was dry over its entire course. There were a dozen or so parties at Cathedral Lake.
