I found out about this run when I was living on O’ahu back in 2010. 11 years later I’m happy to have done this grueling route! 
Also stoked to have crushed my 2018 self. Got to the spot I stopped in 2018 due to a hip issue, just shy of 2 hours faster. 
The heat today was unreal the first 4 hours. 90 and so humid. The summit on the other hand was in the 40’s and I instantly started shaking the second I stopped. Took the advice of my new coach Ian, to hike early and often, and start out conservative. My legs felt like trash at mile ten and that had me very concerned, but I somehow was able to run 90% of the last ten miles from the park entrance to the summit so I guess the strategy worked 🤗 
So much more to share- but most importantly my husband is amazing for driving at a snails pace up this volcano to crew for me😘
