Finally got it done! Had a great time slogging across one of California’s toughest ridge lines! Plan A was to go after the overall self-supported FKT time of 23:33 set by Robert Hunt and Brett Maune which we kept pace with up to Rabbit Peak (peak 6) but because the darkness proved to be our greatness enemy between Rabbit and Dawns Peak (sun rose just before Dawns) which made route finding extremely difficult and lost us about an hour and a half for that section. So we settled for plan b which was “just finish”. Doing all 9 peaks (especially these peaks) with all of its loose rocks, billions of cactus needles ( pulled out lots of those) manzanita, scrub oak, yucca plants, and everything thing else it throws at you and doing it unsupported was quite the task (keeping water at 6-7 oz per hour)! I brought my friends Bup and Zane from UT for this one and I’m not sure if they understood just how hard this would be, but being endurance crushers already, they stood up to everything the SRT could throw at them and managed to finish strong!
