5th.....3x in a row 😕. While a decent result, kinda dissappointed with this one. 

Matt Bailey, Kody King, and Spencer Johnson went away super early, in the dark. Our first time gap was 7mim after what was probably only 45min. We were putzin' pretty slow, but I didn't think that slow. Nathan and I then took up the front to maintain the gap. The two of us pulled until around 5-7mi from the base of the first climb. On that climb we lit things up with Nathan doing the lion's share of the pacing. We came over the top with a group of 7. The first feed was smooth and by the time we hit the second climb, Kody had dropped back to us. Up the second climb we hit things decently hard and reduced the group to 4: Nathan, John, Danny, and me. We caught Matt and Spencer a bit after the bottom of the second climb. I was feeling pretty good at this point and MUCH better than last year considering the cold rain. On the third climb Natty attacked first and made things fuckin' HARD! I was gapped about a third of the way up and swung off behind the JEO pair of Danny and Spencer. Spencer popped shortly after and Danny and I floated 10-15sec behind Nathan and John. We came over the top 15sec behind and I expected Nathan to slow up. He didn't as he didn't see me behind Danny. I sat on Danny who slowed up after a brief attempt at a chase. Spencer caught us, and I decided to sit on and not help to bring a team pair up to Nathan and John. Once I knew Nathan and John had cemented their gap, I decided to work with Danny and Spencer as we were getting no info on who was behind and by how much. I really didn't want to get caught by whatever mystery group was behind. We were rolling fairly moderate turns as Nathan and John continued to put time into us (maxed out at about 11min). Just before we hit the bike path, we called a truce as to not risk running over some stranger. Shortly after popping back onto the road (around 7miles to go), Danny and Spencer started launching attacks. I was plesently surprised they weren't 1-2ing me, but rather slowing up after each of my catches and launching again. With about 3miles to go, I caught the last attack from Danny and figured Spencer wouldn't go again. I rolled from there between Danny and Spencer and Spencer launched with, according to the sign, was 200m. It felt a bit closer to 300m. I didn't have any top end at that point and ended up 5th....for the third year in a row 🤷‍♂️. This race curses me 😅.

Congrats to John for taking the win and Nathan for getting 2nd!
