SUPER grateful for this amazing team and the opportunity to run this amazing relay again this year!!!
As for this leg, this one was super special.  Henny Penny handed off and there was a climb to start, although gradual.  I’m pretty sure this is only one of two legs where the vans can’t follow the runners.  As I got going, it was quiet and possibly the most peaceful leg I had.  After passing a runner I came upon a couple of young boys out walking with their grandmother.  I called out, I didn’t want to startle them.  I remember the look the boys gave me - I tried to give them the most friendly, encouraging, hey-maybe-you-could-be-a-runner-someday look.  Shortly after that things went from pleasant to STEEP!  Snuck around a closed gate (that’s where the sign pointed) and then more STEEP!  Anything resembling running was not feasible.  Oh and it was hot!  Finally started seeing some relief at the crest and then it quickly became STEEP in the other direction- down!  The steepest stuff heading downhill was paved and it just kept dropping until I got flagged onto the trail by a volunteer.  This portion was rooty single track, but not for long.  Before I knew it I was hearing my name called and then there’s my team running alongside me to the finish line, what an amazing feeling!!  We finished!!
