Took the train up to Garrison so I could get a fresh attempt at Bear Mtn to gauge my fitness. I started riding the lower slopes as a warm up and felt like the wind was in my face, so I decided to continue at a moderate pace until the Perkins drive turnoff, and then ditch my bottles and jacket and go for a hard effort. I immediately felt great and could tell I was flying, but I really had no idea how well I was doing until I hit the top and saw that I was sub-8. There was definitely a tailwind, though it's hard to say how stiff it was, but on the other hand, I didn't have my race wheels and tires on. I think it's safe to say that I'm in better shape than I was last fall when I could only manage an 8:28 with a faster setup.
