Morning Ride

Today was a 100% breakaway day. But unfortunately for the first time in this TDF we missed the initial 8 man group that got away so this put us on the back foot and we had to chase to try and correct the situation. It took us 50km but along with some help from a few other teams we managed to close down the gap coming into the intermediate sprint. At this point a group of nearly 20 riders bridged across to the early breakaway and that was the decisive move. Fortunately we had 4 guys from Israel - Premier Tech in the newly formed break with myself included despite having chased myself all day to catch back the initial break. 
I then went straight on the attack to make sure we were then on the front foot from a race situation. Although to some it may have looked like a winning move it was actually to setup my teammates behind in preparation for the final climb with 25km to go, as I had burnt a LOT of energy chasing back the initial breakaway. Unfortunately my teammate crashed out of the chasing group on the descent after the final climb which ruined any chance of a stage result which was disappointing for us after the effort we put in all day but that's bike racing sometimes. ✌️
Ps. To give you an idea of the speeds this stage @ 49.1km/h avg. was the 5th fastest road stage in the history of the TDF with predominantly headwind all day (apart from the last 8km) and over 2000m of climbing.
