The hardest first 3hrs to any race I've ever done. Keegan made a statement early on and got a gap ~mile 6. 3 or 4 got up the road with him and I was back in a chase group of ~20. Tried to bridge it with Bjorn on the 1st asphalt stretch, but didn't have enough to close the minute gap. Rolled with the not so cohesive group with a lot of fellas hanging on the back. Once we started ripping the false flat down around mile 70, we closed that gap pretty darn quick. After the catch we rolled all the flats easy with the pace kicking up on every climb. I tried a handful of times to get away with Lachlan, but nothing stuck with Keegan being very motivated to chase everything back. Once we hit the loose false flat stretch they used in the road stage race, Keegan smashed it on the front in the crosswinds and guttered everyone. Adam, Alexey and Petr got away with Keegan. Peter and Griff were stuck in between them and the group I was in. I went pretty hard to get a gap with Lachlan and Rob up the long drag climb at mile 100, but was a bit overzealous and once the group caught us I was spent and quickly got popped off the back. Was in no man's land for a bit until catching Griff and having the biggest slide out of my life on the descent 😬. I still don't know how I kept that one up. After rolling through the little town, Alex and Lance caught us up the asphalt climb and we dropped Griff. We rolled we together until the last dirt climb where Alex got away. I rolled into town with Lance and was totally dead. Overall pretty happy with this one and on to Nebraska next weekend for Gravel Worlds!
