Animas -> Perins -> Hogsback -> Smelter -> Pautsky -> Skyline -> Baldy

Thanks for the route Maggie Guterl and for the beta Kyle Curtin. Took a different route up and down each high point so ample bushwhacking on the day. Sunny and hot from Hogsback to Pautsky. Refilled water in the Animas after Hogsback and Smelter but it was nowhere near enough. Ran out of water shortly after Pautsky. Dehydrated ride on the struggle bus over to skypoint. Mercifully and fittingly the sky opened up at skypoint. Failed to avoid the unavoidable private property along the ridge. Definitely got captured on numerous game cams. 😒 Finally got to refill bottles from a culvert on Ute Pass road during the storm. That saved me. Cause I ran out of water again halfway up Baldy as the sun was coming out. It felt like such an arbitrary and capricious peak for this objective. Just like the name “Bald” is so arbitrary. Ran down Haflin and it’s dry creek bed. Discretely ran along a farm fence line to the Animas disturbing some dogs along the way. Started inhaling water before swimming across. Bushwhacked to 550 then finished where I started at the RV lot.
