Melbourne’s most popular running route, ‘The Tan’ lap is 3.827km around and suited for runners of all abilities. The majority of the track is gravel, Anderson Street the only exception. Check out the list of Top 10 male and female fastest times recorded on the pillar at the horseshoe start and don’t forget to stop in and enjoy a coffee at one of the cafes along Domain Road once you’re done. The Tan is incorporated into many of Melbourne's biggest running events, and is also home to numerous running & exercise clubs.

What Others Are Saying
The Tan is my favourite running route in Melbourne because it’s only a hop, skip and a jump from my front door. There is always plenty to look at and keep the mind entertained with the track surrounding Melbourne’s world famous Botanical Gardens. The gravel path provides a chance to give the legs a rest from the unforgiving footpath. As an added bonus, due to its popularity amongst Melbourne’s running community I’m almost certain to bump into a friend along the way.
The “Tan” is undoubtedly Melbourne’s most popular run course. You haven’t run in Melbourne unless you’ve got a tan PB! There’s even an official top 10 male and female list on display at the start line and it includes several Olympians.
It's scenic circling the botanical gardens, past the shrine, and running along side the Yarra. It's central within about 1km of the CBD, it's got a challenging hill (Anderson street), plus plenty of flat distance, and at 3.8km it's suitable for runners of all abilities.
