Mount Lofty, Sterling and the Adelaide Hills
Cycling Route
Details
90.45 km
1,934 m
A days riding through the magnificent Adelaide Hills. No other city in Australia can provide you with access to a ride of this quality so close to the city centre.
If you have followed the World Tour professionals as they tackle the stages of the Tour Down Under you will already be familiar with Mt Lofty and the picturesque town of Stirling, famous for its sprint finish which in 2018 was won by Cabel Ewan. But you are here for the hills and thankfully there are many with over 1900m of elevation.
Strava Segments to Note
Windy Point Climb
The first climb you encounter includes the Windy Point Strava segment which is currently owned by Joe Cooper. Joe is a cyclist for the Bennelong SwissWellness Team and is also the New Zealand Time Trial National Champion. Jo took the segment in June 2017 with a time of 7.26 for the steady 3.6km / % climb. That's 26 seconds faster than the next rider in the list of almost 10,000 who have completed this segment on Strava.
The Old Freeway (Tollgate to Bollards)
If you take this route in reverse direction the first climb you encounter includes this segment which was also taken by Joe Cooper in the previous year. Joe obviously knows how to grind it out uphill, with a time of 18.13m for the 8.64km segment with its average gradient of 5%.
