I came here to prove to myself that I'm back to where I was before I had my hip rebuilt, and I did... but I can't help feeling absolutely gutted that I missed sub 9 by less than five minutes. (You win a big belt buckle)

Entirely no-one else to blame but myself, I missed the second feed station (surrounded by racer crew gazebos etc) and had to cycle back to it.  Cost me a bunch of time, I lost my fast group and I frazzled my brain.

That all said, had you told me I'd beat my old time (9h 19m) when I came out here I'd have laughed at you.  I'm no-where near as fit as I was then, nor can I descend as well... but apparently I'm old man stubborn.

I guess after the terrible luck Ive had this year I should be happy with the result, I'm just sad that I'll likely never get that big buckle (too expensive to come back / just too much training).
