Thank you Kevin Daffey for organising an excellent Audax. It's a shame you used up all your weather loyalty points yesterday.

I was a very soggy cyclist as Andre Wales dragged me to the foot of Frocester Hill - he really is too quick to ride with comfortably on the flat. The Frocester climb was made more exciting by being overtaken by a classic car rally. Lots of minis and MGBs but hats off to those in pre-war convertibles (they were wetter than we were) and the Rolls Royce Silver Ghost. If you're going to do something do it in style.

Nailsworth Garden Centre provided a perfectly acceptable scone, but not a patch on the monster I got yesterday at Raglan Garden Centre (and no chips either).

The rain relented for the next couple of hours as I cruised past the water park, almost got swept up in another cycling event (had to be very clear to the marshal which way I needed to go) and almost had an off on a slippery corner.

The heavens opened as I approached Malmesbury so I stopped for lunch whilst it rained cats and dogs. 15 minutes and an egg mayo sandwich later and it was dry again https://www.athelstanmuseum.org.uk/ . Another dodgy moment leaving Malmesbury as a driver braked suddenly and almost collected me on his rear bumper. 


The weather got better, my legs got worse (I was really feeling yesterday's hard 120km club ride) so I slammed down some gels and gritted my teeth for the last 50km.

I was considerably slower than expected but the combination of the weather (high rolling resistance, very slow descents, dismal cyclist) a much hillier parcours than expected (over 5,000 feet of climbing) and tired legs from yesterday go a long way to explain it 

Thank you Suzanne Carlino for collecting me from the Three Tuns ❤️❤️. I maybe could have ridden up Penterry Lane - but I doubt it.🥴
