Managed to ride with a bunch of a dozen cyclists doing rotation & enjoying rolling hills before the first Aid station, but was dropped shortly afterwards. Kept riding solo before Mackenzie Pass battling with massive headwind and heat, struggled to join a couple of small bunches which overtook me. But then got lucky to meet Monique Barnes matching my pace which was a huge help and mental relief. I guess I would had fell asleep in that ditch or even canceled the whole thing if she didn't check out whether I was OKay 😅 Super happy I was able to stick with her for some time and recover through pedaling. Worked in pair until Mackenzie water station (after which I literally got wings) and a bit further to the second Aid station. Had some fun riding through the flats with the long awaited tailwind and especially, Myers Pass descent going with be-light-and-fly mindset, over passing a few riders on the way. Finally, got into a true race mode for the last 40km playing cat and mice game with a few of them. A big day out - lessons learned, looking forward to next year!
