Spent yesterday bouncing around the government departments in Gangtok trying to get a permit for North Sikkim. Major sticking point seemed to be I was unmarried. Could’ve persevered but no guarantee of success so headed back South today. Shame, it looked spectacular - will come back when I’m married. First McDonald’s in about 10 years in Gangtok made it worth the trip anyway, I’d hit my dal limit. 

Avoiding retracing my steps meant a lumpy but quiet route back into West Bengal.
