Afternoon Ride

This year I’ve ridden my bike four times. I’ve been to seven funerals. Two for friends who weren’t fortunate enough to make it to age 50. I managed to hit that age in August and spent more time sulking than being thankful. This week I heard Tony Hogue passed away. A guy who made even the Northside Yawn at Dawn rides enjoyable.

My excuses for not riding are often pretty flimsy. Now they feel disrespectful to those whose funerals I attended this year and to cycling friends like Tony and Jonah. So, no more excuses (except golf, which is always legit) for taking my health for granted. If you don’t see me on Strava for a while, send me a message and give me shit. Point and laugh at me as I get dropped on a hill…or false flat at this point. My shame will be a motivation. I’m ready to put this year behind me and hope to see many more of you in 2026.
