My last 200 of 2025 and probably my last ride of the year. I’m not gonna worry about the extra 100km for the festive 500 as anyone who’s heard me coughing today will understand.
An early to start to meet Andrew Turner who had devised the route to and from Dunmow. It was a pleasant morning not as cold as yesterday and it was really nice to be back out riding with someone, chatting helps the time fly.
At Paradise cafe we had a good breakfast and met up with everyone riding the Horsepower 100 perm. Setting off together we soon found it was just the 2 of us again and enjoyed the ride up to Newmarket for ‘Spoons lunch. It wasn’t long before everyone else turned up and we sat around eating/drinking/ chatting for far too long.
Once again we all set off together but drifted apart on the climb out of Newmarket, we rode as a 5 for a while before Andrew and I’s route diverted, where Mark Nevill joined us for the slog back to Dunmow. And slog it was I had nothing, and it was all I could do to sit on Andrew’s wheel.
A quick Coke and crisps at the Angle & Harp before the 2 of us set off again into the dark and cold.
20km from home Andrew peeled off home and I rode the last bit solo.
Despite the cough it was a very enjoyable day and reminded me why I prefer calendar events (even though this wasn’t one).
