Mostly nasty traffic until the turn onto Route 234 toward Re’im—then, surprisingly, a quiet stretch. I visited the Nova memorial again. It was very crowded, nothing like the deeply personal experience I had two months after the massacre.

There are many newly asphalted roads near Be’eri. I took one toward the Gaza barrier, wondering when I’d hit a block, but managed to reach the security fence. Before 7/10 I would never have dared to cycle there, fearing snipers; now it feels safe, with the army operating about 5 km inside Gaza. I spotted a group of six gazelles in the distance and chatted with a couple of reservists near a roadblock I passed from the other side.

So many new roads to explore—so quiet and peaceful. It’s hard to imagine this is practically a war zone. I’ll be back soon.

I found a mobile phone on the shoulder of the road, called the last number, and it turned out the owner was at a nearby kibbutz.

I stopped by Bror Hayil for Dina, who hosted me in France and is now visiting family. I wasn’t quite ready to catch a bus back to Tel Aviv, so I rode on to Ashkelon to visit family instead.
