Last time on the bike …… this year.

Time and Ride again.

More time [ not enjoyable ] on the bike.

Time on the bike; the last time on the bike this year. 

No idea how many kms done in total and I don’t care. What I do know is that I’ve always ridden, no breaks, time off or lack of motivation. Rain or shine and now cold …. I ride. 

It helps being focused on racing; getting fit, staying fit, getting fitter but I’ve never experienced a lack of motivation to go out and ride. 

Today is an example of that. 

The day started with the danger of ice and temperatures so low there might well be icy patches out there waiting to cause a slip. 

Hence, I waited until mid day as the warming sun, quite a surprise, would shift most of it. 

I made sure I sought out the sun lit stretches and stayed clear of any shaded areas. 

It was cold. A strong head wind picked up that made for a bitterly cold wind chill but there were ample areas where I was protected from it. 

I basically did the same 3-4 hour route, varied it slightly towards the turn point and headed back. 

I was well fueled on such a cold day with my home made energy bars and I made sure I ate regularly. 

I saw 3 other cyclists on route. I think the acknowledgment rate is 1:3 so generally solitary cycling is just that. 

A huge buzzard, fully matured bird, sat on a fence post facing into the wind and the road. We eyed each other warily and he was the magnificent one. 

As I reached Beeley via Jaggers my feet were now solidly numb. It was cold and the side wind over the highest, most exposed ground, blew across me pushing me towards the centre of the road. I was battling to stay left and at times it was really dangerous as the stronger gusts seemed to lift me sideways. 

Shelter came once I was descending beyond it and I opted for Far Lane and a climb up into Holmesfield. 

I felt good on the last climbs. 

This Z2 endurance riding doesn’t work the legs hard at all and having done a few of these recently I can feel the benefit. 

With the prospect of winter coming I will stop risking it on the road and accept that it has to be the turbo indoors. It may be 2 months of it and already I’m starting to map out a program for 2 months. 

I’ve endured the cold enough. Numb toes and fingers is no fun. It won’t be a problem to climb on the turbo in a controlled environment. 

So, another good ride. Time on the bike well spent.
