The percentage of this run that was on VAST trail, nice 😎 12.5% dirt (ice) road, 10% fatbike trails, 4.5% road, and 4% miscellaneous "trail". Lots of new sections in this one, majority farm land up the east side but a little more woodsy down the west. Nice where there was packed powder. Terrible where there was ankle slicing ice crust over 4" of water. Expected where there was pure grease skating rink imprinted with dog tracks that told the tale of legs splayed in every direction trying to stay upright. Same bud, same. Hardly saw a soul out there today save for my owl friend and some fresh XC ski tracks. Wouldn't be too hard to paint this as some sort of stoic, meditative experience but it feels dishonest - think I'm just a guy who likes to be stoned out in the middle of nowhere listening to the snow crunch under my feet instead of confronting whatever it is I'm supposed to be doing. Either way, it's the longest run since I fucked up my hip back in early August and it feels good to put some distance on the system and treat the eyes to some new sights.
