Short warm up, solid 5.5km trail effort, easy jog back- got back a CR

Always enjoy this race and like to do it whenever I am around. Great support along the whole course which was much appreciated.

Tried racing it in cross country spikes which was a little unconventional but in the end it worked. Just felt like I was running with good form and was light across the ground. That's what you want on sand. 

I thought my record in this race was going to come to an end being well behind the leader 3km in. Gradually closed the gap from 3-5km using my experience in this race in finding the shortest line around/through the rocks.

Once we got to the turnaround and had the wind behind us I felt really good and put in a big effort over the next few kilometers. My legs started to give up a little in the last few kilometers but managed to battle through to the finish.

As suspected the nervy issues went away during the race. It just gets worse from inactivity. Just got some hamstring tightness on the other side in the last few kilometers which made it a bit harder.
