🇨🇷 Día ocho. Tambor -> 😵‍💫-> Tambor. It takes stupid and smart to get lost in the rainforest and get out. Stupid was following the dirt road to double track to single track to overgrown single track to washed out overgrown single track up and over many hundred feet of climbing (photo 1). Smart was knowing enough about snakes to move slowly and roll the bike ahead, where possible, so that when I came across the black snake
with bright green patterns I was able to stop and watch from fewer than four feet away as it slithered the four or five feet of its body deeper into the fallen leaves. The internet bets it was a Black-speckled palm pit viper, but I doubt it. Anyway, another mile or more of slow going without any more snakes that I know of, I picked up a rocky path again and that became double track after crossing a few streams and finally fenced pasture. Six miles of gravel later, I stopped for a mango batido (photo 2) and decided just to ride to the beach (photo 3). As always, plenty of hills.
