Boorowa - a tale of two halves..

Boorowa and back is one of my favourite rides but I've never cracked 10hrs, and wanted to today, needing to average 26.5 at the very least.

Good progress on the way out averaging 27.5 even with keeping power in zone 2 and 3. I was looking for a quick turn around, but got bailed up by an old Forbes connection I hadn't seen in 25 years. Had a great chat, then as I was leaving a Boorowa couple on new ebikes from Kingston Foreshore Cycles asked where I was headed, and it turned out we shared Forbes connections too, plus Merimbula ones, and Red Bend (school) ones etc.etc. So those had to be thoroughly explored, then his brother turned up and we had to go through it all again. It's hard work coming from a country town, but such fun to connect with others..!

So I got a bit jumbled and forgot to fill up with water and was as dry as a dead dingoes empty water bottle getting to Yass. The wind kicked up into a decent headwind too and I couldn't keep the average up, and that sort of ended the sub-10hrs attempt.

At Yass I guzzled litres of water and Powerade and I thought any food would make my stomach explode, so I rolled out and then bonked hard near Murrumbateman. I laid on the side of the road at Hall to let the muscles trickle charge briefly and next thing I knew I woke myself up from snoring! I eventually got to a servo and gorged myself. Amateur hour stuff..

Homeward stretch now, but my derailleur stopped working. No probs, new battery! No difference.. 😬 It would shift one way not the other. Probably shifter battery, but after a few tests with it working one way, it was now in granny, and I had a few km left. A 50t cassette is very very slow...

A shame to not beat 10hrs, but that's bikes. Still great to get out and do some miles.
