PUBLIC STATEMENT RE: “Run club disgrace”

Clarification and apology, for the avoidance of doubt, ambiguity, misimpression, or alternative construction: a recent post of mine reproduced and quoted content originating from a separate Reddit thread (https://redd.it/1l45yz2), hereinafter referred to as the “Original Post.” Said content was not authored by me, commissioned by me, ghostwritten by me, nor intended to constitute an original rant, critique, manifesto, or expression of my personal beliefs regarding running clubs or any affiliated or adjacent running-related entities.

The fundamental defect giving rise to the present circumstances was a failure to provide sufficiently clear, conspicuous, and unmistakable notice that the language at issue was sourced from the Original Post, rather than generated by me ab initio. In the absence of such notice, readers inferred—incorrectly, though not unreasonably—that I was the author, endorser, and animating force behind the quoted sentiments.

I acknowledge that this omission resulted in tangible and intangible harm, including without limitation: confusion and unrest within the running community; reputational injury to running clubs both real and hypothetical; unnecessary discourse escalation; diminished confidence in quotation as a literary device; collateral damage to online epistemology; and a measurable, if difficult to quantify, degradation of the world, society, and the social fabric at large.

I regret any and all consequences flowing from this failure of attribution, whether foreseeable or unforeseeable, direct or indirect, actual or metaphysical. I accept responsibility for not more aggressively demarcating third-party content from my own views and commentary, and I commit to implementing enhanced attribution protocols going forward so as to mitigate future risk to runners, running clubs, internet discourse, and humanity generally.
