So much fun seeing so many people I know out there, and a few races within the race... all good fun. Dropped off a little from 14km to 22km, and 22km-26km. Had a def leopard song hysteria in my head pushing me on 23km-25km and I think if the course had been like the first half of the race I might have held that rhythm for my 4.08 target or faster but it was horrible concrete paths for a lot of South Perth and at the Windan bridge so I ended up with long walk breaks instead that blew my time out into the 4.20s. Concrete after that gave me some minor back soreness post race, but fine during it. First 10miles (16.1km) in 1.25 which is my fastest this year by a lot. From 26km onwards the concrete sections, and the constant paths (instead of roads) made it hard to run fast, as the battering of the body became significant. Really liked the way the course went for the first 16km, with true road running (not paths), Flattish course but, 322m on my garmin is nothing like the 100m or less of the Perth Marathon a decade ago... Also a few tight turns, irs a faster course than city to surf but could be faster. Atmosphere especially at the start and finish was phenomenal. Its not Melbourne, but it was ! special!. Aid stations in general were excellent. I didn't bother with special drinks this time, and didn't need them because the powerade water and gels were excellent. One of the best aid station efforts I can remeber in Perth...
Crowd support and encouragement from runners was excellent. So glad I got to do this one. Going to be sore for a few days, and PB survives for another year...One of my slowest years ever, but the signs in the first 16km especially were good, and with better training and no calf injury, it hopefully can happen in 2020. Can't afford Melbourne, and after 4 marathons in 4 months, I think that is totally more than enough for 2019... I think with a few course tweaks, this could grow into an excellent race in a fantastic festival... I might be back again, but it will depend...
Rather miraculous that I got to do this one so Thanks God for helping me get an entry a few days b4. 
Not the conventional Orthodox training buildup, and the night before I was out late at my sisters wedding had 3hrs sleep and then had to drive from Perth to warnbro and back at 3am so not really the way I'd normally do things pre-race and that might have made me a bit weary towards the end, but I guess I'm used to the organised chaos ...
