SB comes to Truckee the day before I go to SB

The original goal was to ride, hike or crawl...from the lowest point in the lower-48 to the highest - in less than a day!  We had an awesome group and it turned out to be an adventure I will never forget. To make things even more exciting the  Fastest Known Time’ was set earlier this week which fired up everyone more.

We had a turnout of SB’s finest hardmen for my 40th birthday challenge.  These guys smashed from the bell, plowing for 40-miles in a heinous headwind.  This perhaps was a  regrettable decision many hours later when the wheels started coming off and we were splintered for miles - but we were having fun in the moment!  We underestimated how much water 9-guys going full gas through the desert would need, especially when you have multi-hour endless grinder climbs back to back. We ended up rolling into Lone Pine well after sunset, freezing cold, and shivering with smiles on our faces. The Whitney Portal Climb at night  was an incredible experience under a full moon in the serenity of the mountains. What a beast to finish the ride on!

I felt great on the hike up Whitney. We have a perfect Fall day, just a tad chilly and almost no wind. Matt and I had enough energy to run up Mount Muir, a neighboring 14er’ before heading down the main trail.
