I opted to take the Horseshoe Harbor Exit on Mandan Rd - partly because I had been that way before several times in previous Summer/Fall seasons. The tracks ended at the entrance to the beach off of Horseshoe Harbor Trail. Since the plan was to complete the loop, I skied along the fat bike/snowshoe compatible portion on Pole Line and ended up learning the necessary backcountry/downhill skills on the go ... with a few falls of course.

Arriving at the shore of my favorite Great Lake was pretty cool. I spent quite a bit of time in that area before moving on ... only to be utterly surprised when the groomed trail abruptly ended at some 'no trespassing' sign 2 kilometers later. Assuming that the shoreline was High Rock Bay, I was expecting to take snowmobile route (#134) but it wasn't there for obvious reasons. Backtracking my route, I found that a portion of the Keweenaw Point Trail (or a cross cut) that completes the Horseshoe Harbor Loop by linking it to Mandan Rd wasn't groomed either.

At the Horseshoe Harbor Trail x Mandan Rd, I skied along Mandan Rd to see if I could complete the loop (just in case the groomers had gotten a late start). Once entering the trail towards East Bluff, I let the previous idea go. Climbing to the top of East Bluff - 4 kilometers of uphill with a couple of fake downhills - came with reward of a magnificient view of Lake Superior. I forgot to unpause the watch after stopping for some photos at the Horseshoe Harbor Exit on Madan Rd and as such, didn't record the final mile-ish.

Though Toko Yellow was one shade too warm for initial conditions, in light of my plight of having to retrace my path the long way, Mother Nature made the trails softer - and conducive for my wax.

Existing wax: Toko Base Performance Liquid Paraffin Yellow polished with a dedicated brush, and Toko Yellow Structure. Turnamic Binding was set to -2.
