Ate meh (mixing shredded potatoes and salsa with salad was not a good idea) and slept equally meh. Woke up around 3:15 am on my own and there were no weird dreams involved. Worked for a few hours instead of attempting to go back to sleep.

Newly acquired racing flats arrived yesterday evening (instead of last Friday) and they needed testing/breaking in. The plan called for a couple miles at race pace and in hindsight, I don't mind the late arrival at all. Based on the trials, errors and progress over the past 6+ weeks, I believe 7:30 min/mile is a conservatively optimistic estimate for the race pace.

Started the W/U easy but it took nearly a full mile to get used to the new kicks. Second W/U mile felt pretty smooth. Added some turns/turnarounds to make these race pace miles more realistic. They felt smooth and splits were 7:29.5 and 7:28.9. Pretty happy with the effort and the result. If not for the absence of white arm sleeves (and about 3 min/mile pace), I almost felt like Eliud Kipchoge during these miles :-P 

W/D miles were faster than intended but felt smoother. Saw/Exchanged pleasantries with some of our cross country/track and field athletes on their morning run. Overall good dress rehearsal (sans eating and sleeping meh last night). Saturday in Marquette should be a good day. Good outing.
