Stunning run, and a new FKT on *technically* the tallest mountain in the world! 🤙🏻 Especially proud of this effort because (1) residual fatigue in the legs from Sunday’s Muliwai run, and (2) I am a sea level doof with zero altitude acclimation. This was my first time running above 7,000 feet much less 13,000! Props to Jeff for setting a remarkable tempo to chase today. 

Perfect conditions: cloudless, windless, visibility all the way to Maui. The trail is gravelly/sandy which makes for tough ascent but fun (fast!) descent. I felt good until ~12.5k ft at which point the dizziness hit, but other than that fared OK with the altitude. Next time, I will hike this, slowly, starting at midnight, with the promise of a sunrise from the summit. :)

I want to acknowledge the sacredness of this mountain to Native Hawaiians, and hope it remains a protected place for many years to come.

Also, appropriately given the setting, I had eruptions out the sides of both of my Calderas. A good run to retire them on.
