Background

If you know me, you know that when it comes to running and really anything in life outside the confines of work, I fly by the seat of my pants. There's no rhyme or reason. Just madness. That's understandably frustrating to folks who value consistency + predictability, but what can I say, it's who I am. What was supposed to be a 2-week vacation in New Hampshire/Maine will end up being 4 weeks. Bottomline: the job allows me to work from anywhere, and yeah, I am hooked on these mountains at the moment. So the objective changed.

The 100 Mile Wilderness was my introduction to the world of long-distance thru-hiking in August 2013. This lead to a thru-hike of the Appalachian Trail in 2014, then trail running in 2016, and finally a life in Utah from 2017 onward. The point: this trail has shaped the last decade of my life, so it has a lot of sentimental value and it's time to pay homage to all it has given me.

Outlook

I am attracted to 100s because science hasn't caught up to 'em yet. We haven't reached the point where (except for a few obvious outliers) you can finish them purely on fitness. Translation: for the time being, someone like me still stands a chance.

Like the Rolling Stones song, I've got no expectations. I respect the environment and terrain too much. Maybe I'll get it, maybe I won't. All I can promise is that I will give my hardest effort. Leave it all out on the line. Hold the Central Governor at bay for as long as possible. And rep the Barnstormers to the best of my ability.

That's all I have to say for now.

Cheers,
Finn
