Another contender starting Day 2 includes 2009 NZPT Queenstown Champion Danny Chevalier.

SKYCITY Queenstown Casino has been abuzz with excitement over the past three days with the action packed beginning of the Pokerstars NZPT Queenstown – SKYCITY Snowfest.

A total field of 127 players from 19 different countries including 49 from New Zealand played in Day 1A, 1B and 1C, creating a record total prize pool for Queenstown poker of $342,900.

This year’s tournament has had many surprises such as the exit of last year’s NZPT Queenstown champion Julian Cohen, Team PokerStars Pro and 2005 World Series Champion Joe Hachem and 2009 NZPT SKYCITY Festival of Poker winner and 2010 World Series bracelet winner Simon Watt, leaving the field wide open.

Joe Hachem may be out of this year’s tournament but he will definitely be coming back to Queenstown. “Queenstown has my heart”, Joe said, “It has it all - great food, great coffee and great scenery.”

Things are heating up as 71 players start Day 2 today with New Zealanders leading the field in the top three spots including the overall chip leader Alicia Sale. Alicia also won one of the many side events, taking home a unique Snowfest ‘trophy’ – a Pokerstars snowboard. Another contender starting Day 2 includes 2009 NZPT Queenstown Champion Danny Chevalier.

Players still in the tournament at the end of today will start Day 3 tomorrow, where the anticipation will continue to build as players strive to make it to the final day on Sunday 28 August.
