Japanese national defender Takehiro Tomiyasu has signed an extension contract with Arsenal.

Arsenal announced the extension of the contract with Tomiyasu on its website on Tuesday . According to the BBC, the contract, which will end in 2025, has been extended until 2026. An option to extend it by one year is also included.

Domiyasu left Serie A Bologna, Italy, to join Arsenal in August 2021. He played in a total of 73 matches while playing in all positions in defense. In the 2023-2024 season, he played in 20 matches, including 13 matches (five starts) in the Premier League.

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta said, "We are delighted that Domiyasu will join us for a future. He is a natural born player, strong man, attitude and spirit. He is loved by everyone, and has been an integral part of the team since joining Arsenal."

"It was my dream to play for Arsenal. That's why I am so happy," Tomiyasu said. "When I am in the stadium, I feel the love and energy of my supporters. I play for Arsenal. It means I play for Arsenal supporters. I want to give them something back."
