Paradise Walkerhill asks customers to certify virus tests

Paradise Co., Ltd., a casino operator exclusively for foreigners in Korea, has been required to present evidence of a negative COVID-19 infection to all customers at the Paradise Casino Walkerhill venue (pictured) in Seoul since November 30.

According to the venue's website, the certificate must be issued by a health institution or hospital.

Paradise Co's business relations team told GGRAsia that Paradise Walkerhill's COVID-19 testing rules were the result of "flexible" management at the local level and were a preemptive measure. This explained why other Paradise Co's venues did not require such testing, the company added.

Casinos in cities outside Seoul will have to limit their number of guests to 20% of the casino's maximum capacity from 12 a.m. on Tuesday to Dec. 14, according to a report by South Korean media, citing state authorities.

The requirements are in line with the South Korean government's tightening of so-called social distancing protocols from "level 1 ″" to "level 1.5 ″" locally to prevent a nationwide rise in COVID-19 infections.

At level 1.5 and below, Kangwon Land Inc., a publicly traded state-run company that operates Kangwon Land Inc. in the highlands off the capital city, the only casino in Korea that can offer bets to locals, limited its daily number of guests to 1,200 from 10 a.m. on Dec. 1.

Kangwon Land previously limited its guest tally to 2,000 based on hours of operation from 10 a.m. to 6 a.m. the next day from Oct. 12.

As of 12 a.m. on Thursday, South Korea had 540 new COVID-19 cases in a 24-hour period, taking the country to 35,703, including 529 deaths, and 28,352 people released from quarantine, according to the ministry.
