Perfectly capturing all the elements that make the Bay Area unique, the Coast Loop should be on top of every cyclist’s to-do list. Men and women who embark on this epic journey will encounter towering redwood trees, quiet roads, switchback climbs, the tranquil coast, and the opportunity to stop at excellent coffee shops and eateries along the way. With the warm California sun shining down, riders are guaranteed to enter a zen-like state while ascending some of the Peninsula’s most cherished climbs. The Coast Loop begins in the picturesque town of Woodside where one is able to enjoy an espresso or two before racing up Page Mill Road, a tough and twisting climb. Upon reaching the top of Page Mill, riders will be rewarded with a spiraling descent down West Alpine Road to Pescadero, where the option of savoring a famous fish taco from the gas station or the legendary artichoke bread with fresh goat cheese from Norm’s Market awaits. After fueling up, it’s time to struggle up Stage Road, a steep and unforgiving climb used multiple times in the Tour of California. If it’s a Friday or Saturday afternoon, unwind for a bit with live music at the San Gregorio Store before heading along Highway 1, which provides incredible views of the Pacific Ocean. The last climb of the day is Tunitas Creek, a charming one-lane road that meanders through a forest of towering redwoods. The Coast Loop ends with a fun descent down Kings Mountain where deer are commonly spotted alongside the road. With scenic climbs, quiet thoroughfares, and impressive descents, the Coast Loop seamlessly captures the stunning beauty and tasty local food of the Peninsula.
