Covering 25 miles, this ride begins Saturdays at 8:00AM and finishes around 9:45am. While no route comprised of public roads is completely free of car traffic, both the timing and location of this ride help make it a fairly welcoming experience for cyclists. The maximum downward slope is approximately 10% while the steepest climb is about 7.5%.
There is a "no-drop" group that moves at a pace that is comfortable for most beginner-to-intermediate road riders ~ 15-16 mph. However, depending on the abilities and desired velocity of the cyclists on a given weekend, one or more breakaway groups may separate from the no-drop peloton and move ahead for the duration of the ride after a warm-up period. The personality of the overall group is friendly and social. Those who wish for an aggressive ride and more rigorous workout are likely to find riders in the group willing and able to split from the peloton and cover the route more quickly at a less social pace if desired.
