This short ride takes you through the scenery that makes up the bulk of riding in the Chico area – walnut & almond orchards and rice fields. From wherever you are in Chico, head for Sacramento Ave. & Hwy 32. Take Sacramento Ave. West (the map shows the Bidwell Ave and Oak Way routes – a little harder to find, but quieter roads) and within just a couple of miles you will be away from any housing developments and into the lush walnut orchards.
A couple of miles down the road you will pass by both Muir Ave and Meridian Rd., good connector roads to use to when you want to "build" yourself a longer ride by combining this ride with the Nord Flatlands Loop (also featured on this website).
If you stay on 5th St. all the way through Chico, it drops you right into Bidwell Park and the One Mile Recreation Area – the meeting place for all Chico Velo club rides.
