Starting in historic downtown Murphys, take an easy grade downhill on Murphys Grade Road all the way to Angels Camp. As an alternate you can climb up French Gulch and descend back to connect with Murphys Grade appx halfway down. This will add about 400ft of climbing to the route. Passing the Hatcher vineyards and historic Jupiter mine (notice the head frame off to your right on top of the hill). From there you'll go through old town Angels Camp. Stop at the Pickled Porch Cafe for coffee and a sandwich if you have time. Head up and onto highway 4 for a brief time and turn left up Six Mile Road where you'll pass vineyards and pine trees, peaking at Ironstone winery just before coming back into Murphys.
