If you want to get your year started on an Epic Foot consider this your invitation. At 7:00 am New Years Day the OEBC hosts the most Epic Ride in Eastern NC. Never mind what Strava says, this route is 140 miles of pure sufferage, epic to the core, and not for the faint of heart. If you want to be part of a growing tradition, roll our with us from the Persimmons Parking lot at 7:00 am sharp. This isn't a no drop ride. If you can't hang you are on your own. Come prepared for to change your own flats (though lets be real, we are cyclists, and we have a soft spot for each other, but don't assume that spot will be soft on on New Years Day) fix your own mechanicals and feed your own hunger. We stop in Beaufort for a quick sit down at the Beaufort Coffee Shop. Be warned at least 20 miles of this route is on unpaved Forest Service Roads and though these roads are usually as hard as asphalt the washboards will have you paying a visit to your dentist on January 3rd (because you won't be able to move January 2nd). Most all riders stick with their road machines but today is the day to bust of the 25-27mm tires. The perfect bike for this route is probably a Specialized Crux or something similar. You will want beefy meats, especially is there is rain, snow, sleet, or some other form of precipitated nastiness.
