RIDE NOTES.
1. USE THIS ROUTE AT YOUR OWN RISK!! SECTIONS INCLUDE MAJOR ROADS AND EXTREMELY STEEP DESCENTS WHERE CAUTION MUST BE APPLIED!!
2. Start at the top of Raglan St, Mosman. Avenue Rd Cafe nearby does a reasonable early morning pick-me-up
3. There are two sections where Strava's turn-by-turn description of the route does not match the map.
a) At the top of Mandalong Rd, Mosman, turn left down the bike lane on Melaleuca St (it's the last street before you reach the T-intersection at Military Rd).
b) At James Wheeler Place, Collaroy Plateau, look for the entrance to the Narrabeen Lagoon bike path to the left of the road. Head west around the lagoon (ie, with the water on your right) and follow the path until you reach the Middle Creek Reserve picnic area. Leave the bike path and go through the car park to the T-intersection with Wakehurst Parkway. Turn right here.
4. Be aware the are several sections of the route that need to be ridden twice to climb all the ascents. Most notably, the climbs at Bayview require backtracking. Here's the route that works best: After descending then ascending Cabbage Tree Rd, take Minkara Rd to Narla Rd. Then descend Narla/Ilya/Kananook then take Pittwater Rd right to Loquat Valley Rd. After ascending Loquat Valley/Lentara, descend Narla/Ilya/Kananook again, but this time, at the base, turn around and ascend what you just descended. At the top, then descend the Lentara/Loquat Valley route you climbed before back down to Pittwater Rd. At the bottom, turn right and continue.
5. Finish at the Newport Arms Hotel, or across the road at the GF Cafe. Beer or coffee, pick your poison, ahem, refreshment. You've earned it.
6. On the return, it's roughly 28km back to Mosman via Wakehurst Parkway. It's less if you, though, if you want to take Pittwater Roads - roughly 24km. But it’s not recommended. Pittwater Rd is busy and has loads of traffic lights. Wakehurst Parkway is by far the better option.
