Town Lake

Running Route

Easy
4.71 mi

The quintessential Austin run is a loop around Lady Bird Lake on the Ann and Roy Butler Hike and Bike Trail or, as most locals still call it, the Town Lake Trail. The crushed gravel trail circles the lake, which is a section of the Colorado River, in the heart of the city. On weekend mornings it seems as though every running club in town is on the trail, and that may be true! During the sweltering months of summer, breezes off the water will cool you down a bit. In addition to the peaceful natural scenery along the lake, you can take advantage of plenty of restrooms, drinking fountains, water stations provided by local running stores, and mile markers along the trail. The six bridges crossing the lake allow you to create loops of varying distances from 3.1 to 10 miles. If you are running Town Lake in the evening, watch out for the swarms of bats flying out from under the Congress Avenue Bridge.
