At the edge of the Front Range lies Mount Falcon, offering an accessible mountain park for metro Denver residents. Mount Falcon Park is based around the ruins of the John Brisben Walker mansion, located near the top of Mt. Falcon. Walker, a wealthy businessman, started construction on his house in 1909. When lightning struck and burned down the house in 1918, Walker was forced to abandon his dream home as well as his idea to build a summer residence for U.S. presidents nearby. The ruins of his home and the foundation of the summer White House are still standing. You may want to take a couple breaks from your run to check them out. This is a challenging route with the first four miles being entirely uphill and gaining 1,700 feet. But the reward will be the amazing scenery from the top where you can look down upon Red Rocks Park and spy snowy peaks off in the distance. After you reach the top you’ll have a gorgeous rolling section, the Parmalee Trail through both open glades and wooded areas, before you start your long descent.
