Pleasantly Awake

Much earlier than I'd planned, get out of bed.  Body seems to be craving some type of physical effort - RDing is a mental grind, especially for a multi-day event, but, typically, at least for me, involves consuming an absurd amount of aid station fare, which, if one is not running long distances, is not the finest idea.  There was a time when I could have resisted said temptations, but I've accepted my shortcomings and was happy to subsist on Nerd Gummy Clusters, Haribos (I will always say, despite their popularity, these are LOW on the totem pole of gummy-food.  The CLEAR hierarchy is: 1) Bassett's Jelly Babies, 2) Albanese (regular flavor, but all the ones are equally good - regular is just a better value), 3) Haribo.  It's a texture/ease of eating thing.  Haribo is simply too tough to chew).  But I digress.  Slow roll onto the indoor trainer.  Tempted to do PT, but that can get done in the afternoon.  Enjoy the feeling of shaking off the rust of too much aid station fare and not enough movement over the weekend.  Get a solid sweat going, even with the fan cranking in front of me.  

HUGE shout out to Carolyn Shreck, Surjeet Paintal, Christopher Lay, and Chris Martin as well.  Feeling exceedingly grateful to all these folks.  Next year (unless I'm actually running the Yeti), I plan on being able to help the Chris's mark the course again.  If you've never marked a course, especially a TARC course, it is LONG work - but we keep people on course for 30 hours, through the woods, with varying degrees of trail running experience.  HUGE lift from these guys.  And Carolyn and Surjeet - this whole event was their idea.  Dollar for dollar, mile for mile, this is one of the coolest ultras out there (no pun intended, but, yeah, it is the FROZEN yeti . . .).  Been at this for 15 years.  Have NEVER emailed Hale the day after the Yeti to confirm the next year's date.  Always taken a few weeks/months.  THAT is what working with these four people is like.
