Back in the saddle after a long 3 weeks rest! The plan is to ride from Bangkok down to Singapore over the next few weeks. Josh (we rode together in Nepal) is also in Bangkok and heading the same way which is great news. He had some work to do on his bike this morning which he got done, and then we set off through Bangkok, aiming to exit in the west. It is SO BIG. 10km from where I was staying (considered fairly central) to the centre and then another 20km or so till we got out. It was very hot, about 32 degrees which felt like a big jump up after Hanoi. The roads were quiet thanks to New Years though, are very smooth and the drivers are nice. It’s a pretty happy place on the whole - lots of smiley people and music playing. We stopped for a stewy lunch and then hit the roads out of the city and towards the coast. Made good progress and stopped just before dark to find somewhere to camp. Not a lot of options so we tried a Buddhist temple. A massive complex with a big watt in as well. Upon asking we were led to a quiet corner away from the road and told we could stay. The monk then said we needed to learn about Buddha - and proceeded in what we assumed would be a cursory 2 min intro to some fundamentals… oh no! You must say the name of this Buddha 100 times, and there are 5 we worship here. 30 mins later we were still there chanting under his very keen supervision as it got darker and darker and the mosquitos eat ate us alive 🤣 an experience! And fair enough.

We popped round the corner for some grub and are now enjoying a perfect temperature and view of the watt. Good to be back on the road, though my bum isn’t quite as resilient to sitting on a saddle all day as it was 😝😭
